Six out of every 10 evictions in the Spanish capital are taking place in public housing units that have been sold over recent years by the Madrid regional government and City madrid 300x200 - 60% of Madrid evictions are from public flats sold to investment fundsHall to investment funds, according to data included in a report from the Treasury Ministry.

According to the data in the ministry report, of the 111 eviction cases registered between February and June of this year, 65 were in houses that had been sold by Madrid administrations.

Between February and June, the report states, there were 50 evictions that took place in properties sold by the Municipal Company for Housing and Land (EMVS) to an investment fund. Another five evictions took place in flats sold by the Madrid Housing Institute (Ivima) to another fund; and 10 more were related to housing from the EMVS and Ivima. In total, 65 of 111.

In terms of evictions carried out by banks, the report registers 17, which works out at 15%, while another 29 evictions were brought about by private landlords. There were also 73 evictions from illegally occupied properties.

Spanish design firm Espai Fly tucked a modular bed and breakfast (complete with swimming pool) onto a 4.5m-wide rooftop lot: Fly House (Palma de Mallorca)

'Fly House' was created using three stacked secondhand containers, each only 12-sq-m, and constructed as cheaply and quickly as possible. The entire house is only 74-sq-m, and includes built-in solar panels, with an exterior garden and pool.

The interior features lime green walls and a spiral staircase, and most of the furniture was custom designed. The house is also designed to be mobile - should the owners wish to pick up and leave, the Fly House is small enough to go with them.

The Spanish government is planning to tax homes that produce their own energy through solar power and store some of it using batteries.

paneles solares 225x300 - Government to tax consumers who store their own renewable energyA draft decree prepared by the Industry, Energy and Tourism Ministry establishes a new fee to discourage the use of batteries or other storage systems by people who produce electricity, with solar or photovoltaic panels for instance, and who are connected to the national power grid.

Under the new rules, these self-reliant consumers will not be able to use products such as the Powerwall battery recently launched by American automotive and energy-storage company Tesla, and will additionally be penalized for the storage systems that come included with the latest generation of solar panels.

Only off-grid consumers who have their own, completely independent energy-production systems will be able to use batteries without being penalized for it. Modern storage devices typically have an autonomy of two hours or so, making it difficult to be entirely self-reliant.

The new fee will not affect systems without storage, which work only for instantaneous consumption.
