Six months after the introduction of new regulations regarding holiday properties in Andalucía, figures show that in some municipalities such as Nerja, Rincón de la Victoria and Casares, there are 30615971 1789121 foto 132529 300x199 - Holiday rentals represent 30 per cent of tourist accommodation in Málaganowmore places available in rental properties than in hotels.

Self-catering properties now represent 50 per cent of holiday accommodation on the Costa del Sol and 30 per cent of hotel places in the province. The figures refer to rental properties whose owners have complied with the regulations and have registered them with the Tourism Register of Andalucía, and they show that there are currently 26,321 places available in 5,321 holiday rental properties.

However, during the six months since the new regulation came into force, there have been more than 10,000 applications for these types of properties to be registered, and 5,321 of them have completed the whole process, explains the Junta de Andalucía’s Turism and Culture delegate in Malaga, Monsalud Galindo.

The largest leisure park in Andalucía was given the go-ahead by Torremolinos council on Tuesday when the new town planning regulations (PGOU) were approved almost unanimously.

The chosen location will be the area between the Palacio de Congresos and the motorway.

Direct investment in the new leisure park is expected to reach 650 million euros. A further 550 million euros will be invested indirectly.

The project for a new shopping centre in Torremolinos is beginning to take shape after a decade of being caught up in different bureaucratic processes. The local council Torremolinos leisure and shopping centre - Torremolinos eases the way for the biggest shopping and leisure centre in Andalucíawants this major project, which Intu Properties wants to build in the town, to come to fruition as soon as possible. The shopping and leisure centre, which would be the biggest in Andalucía, will include a ski slope and a giant wave pool for surfers, among its other attractions.

This new commercial centre will be on a 195,000 square metre site between the Palacio de Congresos conference centre and the access to the motorway, in the area called Molino del Viento.

For the works to start, the developers are only waiting for Torremolinos council to approve the revision to the Urban Plan, which may be done at this November’s council meeting. If all goes according to plan, the works could begin in the first quarter of 2016 and will be completed in 2018.
