With these guidelines, the public housing company would carry out actions in all areas, from land to construction, management of the public housing stock or the acquisition of other homes to increase it.

It aims to promote and bring on the market a sufficient number of affordable homes to resolve, as far as possible, this housing deficit that has worsened in Spain in recent years.

Challenges that the public housing company will face

We still don't know how the public housing company will function. The details are unknown. However, experts have expressed some doubts and obstacles that will have to be overcome.

Firstly, to clarify the necessary resources and an adequate legal framework for the public housing company to achieve the goals set. Besides, we must add the need for highly qualified teams to develop the projects with guarantees.

Another possible obstacle would be jurisdiction because the autonomous communities have transferred the power in terms of housing. The management model and the time needed to have this public housing stock are other issues that also generate doubts.

There is no date for the creation of the public housing company. Nevertheless, it could become a reality shortly as no parliamentary procedure or agreement of the Council of Ministers is necessary. In any case, its effects would still take time.
