Asia Stocks Rise as Germany, France Pledge Support for Banks Amid Crisis

"Asian stocks rose as the heads of Europe’s two biggest economies pledged to support banks amid a debt crisis that threatens global growth. Shares of Chinese companies fell on speculation the country will maintain tighter monetary policy.

Samsung Electronics Co., the world’s second-biggest maker of mobile phones, rose 1.6 percent in Seoul and Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Co., which gets 45 percent of its revenue overseas, surged 15 percent. China Overseas Land & Investment fell 3.5 percent on concern the nation’s housing market is weakening.

Co-operative housing would solve housing crisis

Brilliant article written by David Rodgers, Executive Director of CDS Co-operatives, the largest secondary housing co-operative in England, since 1979.

Highlights:

Mortgage lending is at its lowest ebb for decades as banks rebuild their liquidity and can no longer borrow the cheap money that flowed back to our Western economies from trading deficits with China and other developing Eastern economies: cheap money that created the sub-prime mortgage lending and toxic debt in the USA housing market and the housing market bubbles in the UK, Spain and Ireland that fuelled the global financial crisis of 2008.

Europe crisis expands. Economist Paul Krugman fears for the future

25th of September. Paul Krugman writes about Europe in The New York Times: "Is it possible to be both terrified and bored? That’s how I feel about the negotiations now under way over how to respond to Europe’s economic crisis, and I suspect other observers share the sentiment".
