This Spanish home is a sophisticated attic space, designed by architect Luis Velasco Roldán, looking out over a rich expanse of village greenery, which is continued into the dwelling in the form of small inner courtyards, patio and greenhouse, to promote connection between interior and exterior spaces. The dwelling, based in Selva (Mallorca) has a minimalist décor that is brought to life with the abundance of plants and shrubs that give an injection of color and softens the hard edges of the modern construction.

Nestled in a small coastal village in the Tramuntana region of Majorca (Balearic Islands), with beautiful views of the Mediterranean Sea, is the home of French fashion and furniture designer Alexandre de Betak. Inspired by cave dwellings, the interior takes on an organic form, even shelves appear to push forth from natural rock to cradle the family's possessions. Rustic wooden beams, doors and furniture warm the stone surroundings of this eco-friendly construction, and ceilings are cut away in seemingly random patterns of abat-jours in the hallway. In de Betak's own words:

For 10 years I was dreaming about it, for five years I was looking for a spot for it, for two years working on it, for another two years building it, and finally here it is...

Americans, Russians and Chinese buyers are increasingly attracted to the lifestyle offered on Mallorca and Ibiza.

Ibiza 300x210 - Ibiza and Mallorca bucking the trend in Spanish property marketThroughout the property downturn demand for holiday homes in Mallorca has remained high, largely due to the mix of nationalities involved. The island is two hours flying time from most northern European cities and more than 80% of buyers in Mallorca are not Spanish. Properties on the island are also popular with Germans, Austrians, Swiss and buyers from Scandinavia.

Overseas buyers are attracted by the pretty inland villages, beautiful coves, marinas and beaches, imposing mountain ranges and 24 golf courses. Upmarket design is also helping to attract buyers. The Philippe Starck designed superyacht marina Port Adriano, Nikki Beach and Jumeirah Port Soller Hotel and Spa all opened in 2012.
